There are so many different ways I could introduce myself here, so many different ways I could try to convey who I am.
All of it is only a skimming, meandering portal into fragments of my life experiences that have converged to affect and support the who-why-how I am in the world today.
All of my training in dance, yoga, spirituality, and life has led me to this point: I’m most interested in love—and clearing the route to what obscures it.
Welcome to my heart’s nucleus.
Relics…
I’ve gotten such power from life difficulty and then sought it out at times—as if I thought that overcoming something built character. And I believe it did.
After discovering the magnificence and deep spiritual connection I felt with the mountains, I left my homeland in Ontario and moved West. I came in a city I’d never been to before, with nothing but a backpack, to audition for the Contemporary Dance department at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver.
Every day, I looked forward to dancing. I like pushing myself, learning different ways to move my body, the live drummer in our early dance classes, and designing and choreographing. When I was in my fourth and final year, I was injured and had to graduate on crutches due to an undiagnosable growth.
I began experimenting with unconventional healing methods. This was my first encounter with my body as a self-healing consciousness.
Intrigued by the power of the mind, I spent six months living at an ashram in India, sleeping on a wooden plank and waking up at 4 a.m. to clean toilets, study yoga, and engage in karma yoga (selfless service).
In my dreams, I was instructed to shave my head and undergo initiation. This is where I got my spiritual name, Madhuri, which means “inner beauty and sweetness.”
Over the next 12 years, I would return to India, sometimes with students and sometimes on my own. I became terribly ill during one of my pilgrimages.
Little did I know that an assault of weird health problems and, eventually, a terrible seven-year illness would force me to return home, cease teaching yoga, and do absolutely nothing (torture for the dancer in me!).
Despite the professionals telling me there was “nothing wrong with me” and “nothing they could do for me,” I was determined.
I knew there had to be something…
some answers…someone…any system that could assist me in healing my undiagnosable condition so that I could move on with my life
I took charge of my own health.
I studied Ayurveda for selfish reasons—to heal myself—until I discovered that the concepts were ageless and necessary, and that everyone, not just me, could benefit (no wonder Ayurveda has withstood the test of time, flourishing for over 5000 years).
There is hope for healing and transformation, regardless of what you have or have not been told about your symptoms/disease.
We all have the ability to heal, to feel fantastic, to have an abundance of energy and vitality, and to experience abundant joy in our life!
I’ve dedicated my entire adult life to my own recovery and transformation. I’ve been teaching yoga full-time for over 15 years and have been a head faulty member for seven years, teaching the Langara College Teacher Training Program, conducting retreats, speaking at conferences, and teaching workshops.
The Madhuri Method: Ayurvedic Yoga Teacher Training is a programme I designed for yoga instructors who want to improve their teaching and their lives by learning how to incorporate Ayurvedic concepts into their lessons.
I co-wrote “Your Irresistible Life: 4 Seasons of Self-Care via Ayurveda & Yoga Practices That Work” and created an Ayurvedic Yoga DVD.
Bio-Energy Healing is a fantastic treatment that, in conjunction with Ayurveda, restored my health to a state of balance and vigour. I continued my education in Bio-Energy Healing, became a trainer, and now provide sessions in Vancouver, BC.
What I’ve learned is that we’re not all built the same way, therefore it’s critical to understand YOUR body in order to give it exactly what it needs to heal.
Just because a particular diet, medicine, or practise worked for someone else does not guarantee that it will work for you.

Street cred…
I have a variety of fancy letters after my name from the California College of Ayurveda, such as E-RYT (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher), BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts), CAS (Clinical Ayurvedic Practitioner), and PKS (Pancha Karma Specialist).
However, I don’t think any of this matters until the heart leads the way and the practises and things are embodied.
